LWF Nepal distributed blankets to cold affected families in Jhapa and Morang districts in coordination with the NMB Bank

The Lutheran World Federation (LWF); a development and humanitarian agency distributed woolen blankets to the cold affected families of Jhapa and Morang districts in Eastern Nepal. The initiative was carried out through the financial support of NMB Bank under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Awarded as the “Bank of the Year” in 2017 and 2018, NMB bank is one of the most reputed “A class” bank of Nepal.

The LWF Nepal with its implementing partners Lutheran Community Welfare Society (LCWS) and Social Network for Justice and Development (SNJD) and NMB Bank came together to support the families affected by cold in Morang and Jhapa.

250 blankets were distributed to Person with Disability (PWD), lactating mothers and elderly people who all belong to poor and marginalized communities.

In 6th January 2020, 150 blankets were distributed in Kanepokhari Rural Municipality-ward 2 and Rangeli Municipality-ward 2 of Morang district. By coordinating with elected ward representatives LCWS identified the cold affected families. The initiative was carried out in leadership of Mr. Kaji Man Bhandari (Chairperson of Kanepokhari Rural Municipality), Mr. Dipu Ram Khadka (Representative of Rangeli Municipality, Mr. Rajendra Kumar Raut (Provincial Program Coordinator East of LWF Nepal). Mr. Patrash Marandi (Deputy Chairperson of LCWS) along with managers of NMB Bank Mr. Praksah Niroula and Mr. Pramod Sharma.

Similarly, in 7th Janurary 2020, 100 blankets were distributed in Gaurigunj Rural Municipality, Jhapa. Here, the affected families were identified through close coordination of “Person with Disabilities Help Committee of Gaurigunj” and officials from SNJD. PWD’s were focused while delivering the support.

Dr Bijaya Bajracharya, Country Director of LWF Nepal, said, “We are extremely delighted to respond to the urgent winterization needs of person with disability, lactating mothers and elderly people with the support from NMB Bank under Corporate Social Responsibility”. She further emphasized to support the marginalized and vulnerable communities in the time of need and crisis.

The blankets were distributed in coordination and participation of representatives from local government agencies.
